EBU welterweight champion Samuel Molina (32-3-1) from Spain makes a surprise voluntary defence of the title against 37-year-old Lithuanian Egidijus "Mean Machine" Kavaliauskas (24-3-1) on November 28 at Žalgiris Arena in Kaunas, Lithuania.
Kavaliauskas, rankled at five by the WBC, lost to Souleymane Cissokho last time out and has been based in the US for most of his career, so is not ranked by the EBU. However, the fight with Molina was approved as the "Mean Machine" is well qualified for a title fight.
Molina, ranked number 15 by the WBC, drew in his last defence against Belgian Anass Messaudi, and takes a big risk in this fight. The reward, though, should he win, is also big.
