The European Boxing Union has ordered a rematch between welterweights Samuel Molina and Anas Messaoudi after their August 2 matchup ended in a draw.
Spain’s Molina, 32-3-1 (15 KOs), the EBU European belt holder, will be allowed to make a voluntary defense before making another go at Messaoudi – though any details of that fight have yet to be announced.
Before Molina and Messaoudi met at Plaza de Toros de La Malagueta in Malaga, Spain, in what observers agreed was a close fight, Molina had been ranked No. 10 by the WBC. He has since slipped to No. 15.
Belgium’s Messaoudi, 17-0-1 (11 KOs), who was unranked by the WBC before the first Molina bout, is now ranked No. 22 by the sanctioning body.
