Rod Salka (19-3, 3KOs) is a huge underdog in his upcoming Showtime televised fight against WBC/WBA junior welterweight champion Danny Garcia (28-0, 16KOs) on August 9th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
The fans and the writers have been very vocal about their displeasure with the fight. Salka, a lightweight who is unranked at 135 and 140, is now facing the man regarded as the best junior welterweight in the world.
"I don't worry about what anybody else says, because what anybody else says I can't control. I don't worry about any of that stuff - the rivalry, the hype - all that stuff, to me that's a distraction and I don't need any distractions," Salka told BoxingScene.com.
"Stylistically I line up well with anybody in the world. I don't think that there is anybody in the world, when I'm at the top of my game, that I can't beat. And I plan on proving that on August 9th. Danny Garcia, as everybody knows, is a good puncher. He was a good amateur. He can punch, he can box. That's what you are going to get at this level - well, so can I. We're going to get in there August 9th and see who's the better man that night."
