Rod Salka (19-3, 3KOs) is not bothered by the widespread criticism from boxing journalists who labeled his upcoming fight with Danny Garcia, the WBC/WBA junior welterweight champion, as a mismatch.
Salka, not regarded by most as a top lightweight, is heading to 140-pounds to challenge Garcia on August 9th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Showtime has taken a beating in the press from pundits who believe Garcia should be facing a far more worthy opponent.
"When I got the call I told them to sent me the contract as soon as you can. They sent it within minutes and I signed it within minutes and it was a done deal," Salka told BoxingScene.com.
"I’ve never in my life cared what anybody had to say about me. Their job is to do that. I don’t care what they’re saying. They’re still talking about [the fight]. Whether they say it's terrible or not. I hope if you’re a true fan of boxing you’re still watching the fight. If you’re not a true fan of boxing then you won’t. If you’re calling yourself a journalist or a fan or whatever, then you’re a true fan of the sport and you are going to watch the fight for whatever reason, just because you love the sport of boxing. And then maybe I will give them all my cards so they can call and apologize after the fight."
