After weeks of openly discussing the possibility, unbeaten WBC interim-lightweight champion Ryan Garcia is moving away from a potential catch-weight bout with Manny Pacquiao.

The two sides had interest, but without a significant financial backer the contest was never going to happen.

The 22-year-old was in action back in January, when he pulled off the biggest win of his pro career with a knockout of 2012 Olympic gold medal winner Luke Campbell.

Garcia was down early in the fight - and rallied down the stretch to put Campbell away.

Garcia is now completely fixated on facing WBA champion Gervonta 'Tank' Davis, who in his most recent fight brutally knocked out Leo Santa Cruz.

He wants the bout with Davis to happen next. It's unlikely to come off in his next outing - without the ability to have a significant live audience due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Live audience or not, Garcia fully intends to continue calling for Davis until he agrees to fight.

“I want Gervonta Davis. I wanted it before the Pacquiao fight,” Garcia told DAZN's Beyond The Bell.

“I say his name any chance I get. I’m going to keep saying it, whether people want it or not. That's what I'm going to be shooting for. If it doesn’t happen, it’s always going to be the other side. Because I say yes.  I made the Luke Campbell fight. Yes, yes, yes. I’m in it to get all the greatness I can out of my career.”

Garcia explains that his goal is to become the greatest boxer of all time.

“I’m here to one day be the greatest fighter of all time,” Garcia said. “That’s who I strive to be, Muhammed Ali paved the way.

“He showed me how to stand up for things I need to. I think it’s my turn.”
