Marco Antonio Rubio (58-6-1, 50Kos) has doubts that Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. will return to the middleweight division. Rubio returned on Saturday night and knocked out Dionisio Miranda in two rounds.
The World Boxing Council ordered Rubio and Chavez to fight each other for the vacant interim-title. Chavez won a twelve round decision over Rubio early last year.
Chavez will return to the ring on September 7th at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. He will face Brian Vera at the super middleweight limit of 168. Chavez, who struggled for the last two years to continue make 160, has been talking more and more about targeting WBC super middleweight champion Sakio Bika.
Rubio is going to sit back and wait for Chavez to make his decision. If Chavez takes a pass on the rematch, then Rubio will face the highest available contender.
