Former four division champion Roy Jones Jr. is outraged. It appears that several of his sparring partners were denied entry into Australia because they failed to provide full disclosure of their criminal records. Jones faces IBO cruiserweight champion Danny Green on December 2 at Acer Arena. Green's manager Justin Manolikos received a call from Jones' camp but he told them that it wasn't his problem. It does pose a problem for the show as some of those fighters were due to see action on the Jones-Green undercard.
"It's not my problem. What do they want us to do?" Manolikos told The Daily Telegraph. "Call the Prime Minister and say 'Let these nice guys in'? Surely they should have done it the proper way."
"They have had at least eight weeks to sort this out. It's a problem with some of his sparring partners and some of the undercard fighters. At the end of the day anybody would think we're dealing with a bunch of cowboys, not supposedly one of the greatest of all time."
Green agrees that Jones' camp has been tough to deal with and he doesn't blame Manolikos for not getting involved.
"Justin is a boxing promoter, he's not a foreign affairs minister, and his hands are tied up dealing with enough of their bulls ... without having to wipe their backside" Green said.
