Roy Jones Jr. was just knocked out cold by Glen Johnson in the ninth round on one punch ala Antonio Tarver.
Tonight Roy Jones looked like an ordinary fighter and his career is OVER! Forget Antonio Tarver, forget Bernard Hopkins, Roy Jones Jr. could not even beat Glen Johnson. Glen Johnson is 35 years old, never a top fighter, soft hitting, not a legit light heavyweight, former KO victim of Bernard Hopkins and knocked Roy Jones out cold.
From the opening bell, Johnson attacked Jones with everything but the kitchen sink. Johnson showed no respect for Jones and it paid off in a big way.
Jones barely threw 15 punches a round and Johnson was non-stop throwing power punches and kept pressure on Jones. Antonio Tarver showed the recipe to beat Roy Jones and Johnson fought a near copy of Tarver's gameplan.
One would think that Jones would know to stay away from the ropes as he was knocked out against the ropes by Tarver but he let Johnson back him against the ropes, beat on him througout the fight and knock him out.
Jones had practically lost every round, Johnson had Jones rocking and reeling in round 5 and Jones never even tried going for broke at any point of the fight.
Jones looked old, looked beaten and should leave the sport, There is no money in a Jones fight against anyone after being knocked out cold, two fights in a row and the second time being against a guy who was picked as an "easy" comeback opponent.
Roy Jones has suffered a concussion as a result of the Johnson knockout and was unavailable for an interview. At the time of the stoppage, Johnson was leading on all the scorecards, 77-75, 77-75 and 78-74.
