Former four division champion Roy Jones Jr. advised BoxingScene.com that junior welterweight contender Paul Spadafora (46-0-1, 19KOs) can hang with the best, including WBA 154-pound champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. Spadafora returned on Saturday night in West Virginia, for the first time in two years, and won an eight round unanimous decision over Humberto Toledo. Spadafora is now promoted by a new company that Jones is involved with, TNT Promotions.
A decade ago, Spadafora and Mayweather took part in a sparring session where Spadafora got the better of Money Mayweather, who reportedly wasn't in shape. Jones would love to match the two of them.
"I've seen the sparring session. Not much [of what happened back then will matter] because both of them will be totally different fighters when they step in the ring for true battle. Neither fighter was themselves that day. Paul might have been in better shape than Floyd so you can understand how it went. But that does not mean that it would impact how a fight would go between them. I would love to see a fight between them," Jones said.
"[Spadafora is] one of those great guys where you can't really say who can hang with him and who can't. On any given night he can blast anybody away. Paul is very special in his own fight and you can't say what he can and what he can't do."
