Roy Jones Jr. has a lot of respect for Joe Calzaghe, but he plans to throw their friendship out the window once the bell rings on September 20 in New York's Madison Square Garden. The two fighters are co-promoting the HBO pay-per-view with their own promotional banners, Square Ring and Joe Calzaghe Enterprises.

Jones, a former four-division champion, says that he will turn back the clock and stun his critics by fighting like the Jones of the 90's.

“Joe’s a great fighter, definitely one of the better fighters of his era," Jones told Wales On Sunday. “I was a fighter of the 90s, but I feel I’m also a modern era fighter. People don’t realize that, but I’m going to show people what I am. I’ve got nothing but respect for Joe and he’s got respect for me, but I still believe this is a fight I will win.”

As Calzaghe stated in an earlier brief, Jones says the fight is taking place in New York, instead of Las Vegas, because the trip is easier for Calzaghe's fans flying in from the UK.

“When Joe fought in Vegas, I ran into a lot of people who weren’t happy with the arrangements," Jones said. “So I wanted to make it easier for the people to come and support the fight.”
