Former four division world champion and HBO expert analyst Roy Jones Jr. believes Daniel Jacobs (32-1, 29 KOs) is in really deep when he steps in the ring next Saturday night, against IBF, IBO, WBC, WBA middleweight world champion Gennady 'GGG' Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs).
The HBO Pay-Per-View fight takes place at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
Jacobs, according to the opinions of most boxing insiders, is the biggest and the most dangerous opponent of Golovkin's career.
There are many who believe the biggest factor in the contest is Jacobs' chin.
Golovkin is one of the deadliest punchers in the sport. He's stopped his last 23 opponents - and no fighter had made it beyond the eleventh round with him.
Jacobs was knocked out in five rounds by Dmitry Pirog in their WBO world title fight in July of 2010. He's bounced back in top form since then, winning his last twelve fights and all of them have been by knockout.
But, he was knocked down in his first fight with Sergio Mora in August of 2015. The knockdown is a bit problematic for many observers, because Mora is a very light hitter with only 9 knockouts in his 28 wins.
Jones predicts a great fight, but admits that it's very difficult not to side with the potential outcome of Golovkin walking away with a knockout victory.
"A great fight from both fighters. To me, Daniel Jacobs is in really deep because we have seen Danny Jacobs go down before. We’ve never seen Golovkin go down before and we don’t think we’re going to see him go down this time. With that being said, I think Jacobs has his hands full. He’s probably going to be the toughest guy that Golovkin has faced, on paper, but because we’ve seen him go down before, it’s hard for us to see him not going down again," Jones told On The Ropes Boxing Radio.
