Former champion Robert "The Ghost" Guerrero (31-2, 18KOs) is waiting to get word on his next opponent. The welterweight contender has been spending time with his family since losing a twelve round unanimous decision to Floyd Mayweather Jr. on May 4th. Guerrero spoke to BoxingScene.com about the latest with his career and gives his take on Mayweather upcoming challenge of WBC/WBA 154-pound champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez on September 14th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

BoxingScene.com: What’s up Robert? Can you let our readers know what you’ve been up to as of late?

Guerrero:  Right now I’ve just been enjoying some quality time with my family.  I had three hard fights within the last twelve months and the break was much needed.  I’ve been taking care of my body and will get back in the gym full time very soon.

BoxingScene.com: What did you learn about yourself after taking part in a high profile pay-per-view against someone like Floyd Mayweather?

GUerrero: The experience was incredible.  I worked very hard to get the Mayweather fight.  I earned it the old fashion way by beating all the top contenders.  Of course I would have liked to come out on top, but Floyd was on top of his game that night.  I feel I could have made some adjustments but he's a smart boxer.  For the fans I thought he'd be a man of his word and fight toe to toe like he said he would but we'll see each other soon.  I just got to go out and take care of business.  I'm only going to get better at welterweight.   This next fight will be my fourth in the weight class and I'm only getting stronger at 30 years old.

BoxingScene.com: Have there been any talks about when you will return to the ring?

Guerrero:  My managers haven’t told me anything yet, but I know they are working hard behind the scenes to get me back in the ring.  You know me I’m ready to fight the biggest names out there.

BoxingScene.com: Is there any particular fighter you want to challenge?

Guerrero: Like I said I’m ready to fight anyone.  Victor Ortiz and I exchanged direct messages on twitter and we both want to get in the ring, so I don’t see why that fight can’t be made.  The fight is very east to make since we both got the same promoter.  I think it’s a fan friendly fight that everyone wants to see and I want to fight.

BoxingScene.com: What are your thoughts on the Canelo vs. Mayweather fight?

Guerrero:  Canelo has improved tremendously since he won a world championship, but I think Mayweather will be too fast for him.  If Floyd moves around the ring like he did with me he's very difficult to fight.  It will be a great event and these are the type of fights that boxing fans deserve.  I want to get back in there and earn another shot at a mega fight.

BoxingScene.com: Any last words for the fans?

Guerrero:  I just want to thank everyone for their support.  I have plenty of fights left in me.  I’m going to come back strong and give the fans some great fights.  I’m hoping to get back in the ring very soon.  Thank you and God bless.
