Hall of fame trainer Freddie Roach is not convinced that David Lemieux will do much of anything to test Gennady "GGG" Golovkin when they collide in their IBO/WBA/IBF middleweight unification on October 17th at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The fight will be carried by HBO Pay-Per-View.

During an interview with Fight Hub, Roach made a prediction that Golovkin would "kill" Lemieux and said GGG can get the job done "whenever he wants."

Lemieux's promoter, Oscar De La Hoya of Golden Boy Promotions, feels his boxer will be the first "true test" for Golovkin. Obviously Roach disagrees.

Roach trains WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto who defends his belt against Saul "Canelo" Alvarez on November 21.

"“I don’t know if [Golovkin is] the greatest in the world right now. I’d like to see him in a little bit of a test, and I think Cotto would do that. Cotto would give him a test and then we can decide who the best fighter is after that," Roach said.

Roach may get his wish to test this theory out, because the winner of Cotto-Canelo has been ordered to face the Golovkin-Lemieux winner.

"He's a tough fight for anybody, but I just don't know if he's invincible yet because the opponents in his weight division right now, there are not a lot of guys who are really good fighters. Back in the day when Sugar Ray Leonard and Tommy Hearns and all those guys were there, maybe he’d be an average fighter, maybe he’d be great. I'm not sure, but I'd like to see him beat a higher caliber of fighter," Roach said.
