Guillermo Rigondeaux (15-0, 10 KO’s) is still the best fighter at super bantamweight. Recognized as the champion of the division by the Transnational Boxing Rankings Board and The Ring Magazine, Rigondeaux is still without a major fight.  It’s an issue that aggravates his trainer, Jorge Rubio.

“It’s incredible,” Rubio told BoxingScene.com. “Rigondeaux is the best fighter in the world pound for pound. Anybody that even gets a hint to fight with him is scared. He’s waiting for an opportunity and he’s training for no fight. He’s the best and he needs to fight.”

Rubio says he has no respect for the title holders at 122-pounds because they have no interest to be the real champion in the division.

“I don’t respect (Carl) Frampton, (Scott) Quigg, or (Leo) Santa Cruz or any fighter at 122 with a title, “the trainer said. “If you want to be the champion at 122, Rigo is waiting for them. Rigo has two titles, the WBO and the WBA world title too, anyone wants to take his title? nd I feel bad for the situation. I hope the manager does something about it because [Rigo is] the best.”

A suggestion has been made for Rigondeaux to move up in weight and try to confront the likes of Nicholas Walters, Vasyl Lomachenko, and others at featherweight. But the trainer says it’s a decision only Rigondeaux can make even though he feels that he’s too small for 126.

“I think that Rigo is 122,” explained Rubio. “It’s very difficult for him to move up because he’s already short for the weight and he makes the weight very easy. When he’s training, sometimes he weights between 118 and 120. I hope that he can fight at 122. At 126 he needs to decide if he wants to go there, that’s not up to me.”
