Comments Thread For: Rigo's Coach: Don't Respect Frampton, Quigg, Santa Cruz

Guillermo Rigondeaux (15-0, 10 KO’s) is still the best fighter at super bantamweight. Recognized as the champion of the division by the Transnational Boxing Rankings Board and The Ring Magazine, Rigondeaux is still without a major fight. It’s an issue that aggravates his trainer, Jorge Rubio.

“It’s incredible,” Rubio told BoxingScene.com. “Rigondeaux is the best fighter in the world pound for pound. Anybody that even gets a hint to fight with him is scared. He’s waiting for an opportunity and he’s training for no fight. He’s the best and he needs to fight.”

Top fighters will continue to avoid Rigo and get away with it because the mass amount of dumbasses that are calling themselves hardcore fight fans don't like his style.

Yes they don't like his style BUT Rigo also brings no fans, no money, No TV network or serious promoter wants him and negotiating with his current promoter is difficult. He also wants too much guarantee money.

Instead of taking the GGG approach of staying active and fighting literally anyone, ( plenty of guys out there that will fight him for peanuts) he's waiting around trying to hit the lottery with 3 fighters who have better options.

Rigo willsign with Haymon in September. Then he will get all those belts in a year. I expect LSC to be the easier fight for him, Frampton won't be that easy but Rigo will take his belt too. And even after that there will be a cuple names who Rigo can fight. Mares, Russell for example...

He hasn't been entirely inactive. He got paid pretty well in Japan.
But I think how many bums can he face? He's too good to waste it on guys that bring him nothing. He's already done that.

I hope one of these guys nut up and fight him. Losing to rigo won't end their careers.

The thing about boxing now a days is that most fighters think a defeat will end their careers. Even us fans start calling fighters bums once they lose. It shouldn't be like that, like you said a defeat shouldn't end anyone's career (unless it's a brutal one), especially not against someone like Rigo (it should be a learning experience, if anything).
But I agree with the previous poster, Rigo should just try to stay active. Even if it means fighting a few bums or going to Japan, it'll keep him sharp (especially at his age) and relevant. But that's just me. I think Santa Cruz, Quigg and Frampton would be more than happy to let more time pass and hoping Rigo gets old over night before fighting him.

Fighting twice a year in less known markets isn't exactly active either.
Look I agree. It sucks he's being ducked but there are things he can do.

Being active is one of them. He doesn't have to fight top level competition. Particularly if no one wants him. What he can do is fight a bunch of weak cans. Have a series of KO's shed the image of him being a boring fighter and eventually the fans will talk about him and demand other fighters to fight him.

If he just wants to sit around and complain no one wants him, then it's on him.
This is professional boxing and part of being a professional is promoting yourself. Selling your brand and putting butts in seats and eyeballs on TVs. If he sheds the image of being a boring fighter by earning a string of KOs he'd be talked about more. It's that simple.
If he doesn't like the professional ranks there is always the amateurs.

There all scared and that's all there is to it. Not one of them have seriously called him out. Then you got the fans saying 'he's boring mang'. He schools everyone in his division. Every time I think of Santa Cruz vs Rigo you realise how untalented Cruz is and how one sided it will be. I feel sorry for Rigo.

money talks, if any of those other champions were offered enough money they'll be forced to face him, but as long as rigo stays with caribe, who has no money, no knowledge, no track record and no promotional skills, he is screwed.
