There was nothing Francis Ngannou could do to beat Tyson Fury. It was a cute story but one that was destined to end in the worst way possible for the former UFCer. You’d be hard-pressed to find anyone in the boxing realm who didn’t share this logic.
Riddick Bowe, a long-retired former heavyweight champion, was amused by all of the theatrics. Yet, like everyone else, he wasn’t giving Ngannou a shot in hell. This past weekend, at the Boulevard Hall in Saudi Arabia, the two gigantic heavyweights stepped into the ring and finally got it on.
Bowe sat in his ringside seat comfortably and waited patiently for Fury to find the fight-ending blow. That moment, however, never came.
Bowe’s eyes grew wider as Ngannou scored a knockdown in the second round. Still, even with the early success, Bowe believed that it was untenable. But, with the former UFC star building momentum throughout, Bowe couldn’t believe what he was watching.
Ultimately, Fury managed to eke out the win, albeit controversially. Now, the 35-year-old will move into an undisputed showdown against Oleksandr Usyk. From Bowe’s point of view, he doesn’t believe that Fury should go through with it. In fact, the former champ is convinced that Fury needs to hang ‘em up.
“Either he needs to retire or he shouldn’t fight anymore,” Bowe told Fight Hub TV. “He fought a guy with no fights. For a guy to have no experience, Tyson Fury should have got him out of there early.”
Moving on to the next phase of his life isn’t something that interests Fury currently. He’s chalking up his subpar performance to nothing more than an off night and has already vowed to be better moving forward.
For Bowe, Fury’s words are going in one ear and out the other. The gargantuan Britt’s time has officially come and gone.
“In my opinion, if I was Tyson, I would retire.”
