The contingency created by COVID-19 has deprived the world of many important fights, including the title fight between WBC super featherweight world champion Miguel Angel "Alacrán" Berchelt and mandatory challenger Óscar Valdéz.

Valdez capture the WBO world title at featherweight and moved up in weight to pursue another title belt.

The Mexican rivals are waiting for certain quarantine restrictions to end in order to receive more information regarding a potential date for their fight.

This meeting was being targeted to take place at the beginning of June, but with the pandemic continuing to play out, both sides are waiting for a decision to be announced by the Ministry of Health in the following weeks.

In a recent interview, the world champion is not taking his eyes off his goal - retaining the crown at all costs.

"I'm sure it will be one of those fights that turns into a war and the type that leaves a mark on a boxer, one that makes them remembered, such as the case of Marco Antonio Barrera's battle against Juan Manuel Márquez, which personally is one of my favorites," Berchelt said in an interview for a Quintana Roo media outlet.

For his part, Valdez's head trainer Eddy Reynoso mentioned that the fight will be a great test for both gladiators, but he fully trusts the qualities of his team to prevail on the ring.

"Oscar, who can be more than what he has shown in recent fights, is a tremendous counter-puncher. He knows how to feint, to defend himself, but he needs to settle down more and get inside the ring with a good plan of work and a solid training camp. We will win that fight if it occurs," said Reynoso.
