Talks are ongoing for World Boxing Council (WBC) silver featherweight champion René "The Twin" Alvarado (20-2, 14KOs) to face veteran Rocky Juarez (29-10-1, 21KOs). Alvarado won the belt in February with a nine round battering of Robinson Castellanos. Juarez has been inactive since stopping a six loss skid with an eight round stoppage of Antonio Escalante in October of 2012. Alvarado has since signed a promotional contract with Golden Boy Promotions and the match is being targeted for mid-May in the United States. The possible location is Houston, Texas with Fox Sports 1 televising.
"We have already warned that the opponent is Rocky Juarez. I've seen some of his fights on the internet and he looks to be a strong boy, with experience, so we are preparing with everything to beat him," Alvarado said. "This won't be an easy fight, but I hope that I bring home the world silver championship. Hopefully everything will go well and I continue fighting in the United States more often."
