Remembering Dwight Muhammad Qawi and his underdog rise to greatness

Wow, reading your memories and reflections really shows how much Dwight meant to the boxing community. I didn’t grow up watching him either, but looking back at his career, it's clear he was a true warrior—both in and out of the ring. From prison to world champion, his journey is nothing short of incredible.

The last time I met Dwight he was on crutches, and when he saw me he got right up to shake my hand. His persona was a penitentiary bad *** - which was true enough when he was a kid; but he grew up, and against the odds, he really made something of himself. An inspiration! He was a real gentleman, through and through. RIP

It ***** to see boxers dying out. Big George, now him. Qawi was before my era and before I started watching boxing, actually I would have been too young anyways but 71 is pretty young these days, says he had dementia maybe boxing related
