Peter Quillin is getting ready to defend his WBO Middleweight title for the second time against tough Philadelphia native Gabriel Rosado on October 26th at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, NJ. Quillin is looking to continue his undefeated streak while Rosado is trying to get back in the win column after two unsuccessful high profile fights.
Quillin is known for having the gift of gab as he’s one of the few fighters that is able to self promote himself with ease. Rosado isn’t one to stay quiet either as earlier this week he assured this championship bout would not last the scheduled 12 rounds.
When BoxingScene caught up with Quillin as his media day in Santa Monica, CA at the Wild Card West Gym, he stated if the fight was to end early, he wouldn’t be the one getting knocked out.
“Well if he said it ain't going 12 rounds, it’s not me that's going [down]. He has all the choice to be able to go up in there and fight me and put up a meaningful 12 rounds or whatever it’s going to be. But I just know that I got 21 knockouts, he only has 21 wins. So when it comes to stats, records [do the] speaking. I think he has more of a chance to not make it out the fight” said a confident Quillin.
Quillin is a career middleweight while Rosado has recently entered the division two fights ago. By that information alone, you’d figure Quillin would have a size advantage over Rosado but both guys are similar in size; Rosado is actually recorded as being slightly taller and having a longer reach. But Kid Chocolate feels size won’t be a factor and what they’ve shown in the ring will.
“Let’s just not say who's bigger or not. We can go all day with that. He's pretty much about the same size but his most recent loss is his most dignifying performance. Everybody brings that fight up more than they bring up all the other fights that he has won and what he has done. He's getting credit for losing. Me on the other hand, I'm not out here trying to degrade him and bring him down, I'm just saying I don't have to say nothing nice about you if you don't have nothing nice to say about me. Of course it’s going to be war when we throw those gloves. I'm going to make sure I hit him with every ounce of pain I endured in this training” Quillin would tell BoxingScene.
Despite his bravado, Quillin is not underestimating his opponent as he understands every fight is dangerous. He acknowledges Rosado is a good fighter but he also feels he isn’t going to be good enough to win this fight.
“Every fight is a dangerous fight because one punch can change a fight on anybody's lucky day. I have to make sure that in training I'm doing everything to make sure that nobody has a lucky day and I have all the lucky days. I trained very hard, I think he's very good but at the end of the day I don't think it’s going to be enough for my wrath”.
Quillin looked in great shape and was in good spirits at his media day workout and he looks forward to not only being victorious, but entertaining the fans as well.
