BoxingScene.com caught up with WBO middleweight champion Peter "Kid Chocolate" Qullin shortly after Floyd Mayweather's majority decision victory over Marcos Maidana this past Saturday night.
Quillin said he was on the edge of his seat throughout the fight and that he really enjoyed watching the fight that was closer than most people envisioned it would be.
The 30-year-old Kid Chocolate last fight took place in April when he defeated Lukas Konecny by unanimous decision. Quillin keeps himself in good shape and said that he keeps himself in top condition so that when his name is called for his next fight, he will be ready to go.
"Sometimes people say that losing isn't easy, but winning is even harder. I work hard everyday to stay in these shoes and in this place. I am still hungry. I go to the gym and work like I am still broke," Quillin stated.
Quillin has wanted big fights for a long time but most of the top middleweights in the sport fight on HBO while the Cuban-American has fought exclusively on rival network Showtime for his past few fights which has meant that fighters such as Sergio Martinez and Gennady Golovkin haven't been realistic options.
While he wouldn't pick a winner for the July 12th pay-per-view fight between Canelo Alvarez and Erislandy Lara, Quillin made it clear that he wouldn't fight Lara under any circumstances. However if Alvarez wins the fight, Quillin said that he would love to face the Mexican superstar.
"I am not fighting no Cuban man. My dad is from Cuba and he came here for a better opportunity like all Cubans, (but if Canelo wins) I would whoop Canelo's ass. I don't want to fight another Cuban but Canelo is another story. I will be happy for whoever wins the fight and if it is Canelo we would definitely look for that," Quillin revealed to BoxingScene.com.
Jose Martino of Boxeo Mundial asked Quillin if he would be willing to move down a couple of pounds to meet Canelo at a catchweight. Quillin quickly shot that down, pointing out that Alvarez struggled to make the 154 pound junior middleweight limit in his most recent fight and feels that the fight should take place at the full 160 pound middleweight limit. The fight against Lara has a maximum weight of 155 pounds.
"Canelo is killing himself to make the weight that he is making. He hasn't been making the weight so why not go up another weight class and make it happen? I am the middleweight champion of the world where he (doesn't have a title and) just has a name," Quillin stated.
