Last week an article ran on BoxingScene.com in which newly crowned WBO junior welterweight champion Chris Algieri said that his June 14th victory over Ruslan Provodnikov would have been a blowout win if he had not hit the deck twice in the first round.  One of Algieri's eyes was swollen shut from the damage that he took from the first knockdown.  He was able to adjust after the round and walked away with a split decision victory.

"I learned to not make mistakes.  That fight wouldn't have been close if not for the first round.  It would have been an easy fight. That first round skewed the scoring so much.  I just had to follow the game plan," said Algieri.

With the victory Algieri secured a lucrative pay-per-view showdown against Manny Pacquiao.  The fight will be distributed by HBO PPV and will take place in Macau, China.

Provodnikov took exception to Algieri's comments and said that the native New Yorker did little more than just move around the ring in an attempt to survive.  Provodnikov returns to the ring on November 28th in Russian against an opponent to be determined.

"Chris has no doubt in his mind that a boxing match is dancing around the ring to survive.  If that's the case then he is definitely the best in this sport.  Now he has to learn to be more modest and adequate in his achievements," Provodnikov told BoxingScene.com.
