Adrian Granados won’t catch Shawn Porter with his guard down Saturday night.

Porter promises he won’t make the same mistake some of Granados’ opponents have made by overlooking the tenacious contender. The former IBF welterweight champion recognizes that winning their 10-round welterweight fight would completely change Granados’ career, thus Porter prepared accordingly for a fight Showtime will broadcast from Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

“I’m different from most guys,” Porter told BoxingScene.com. “Most guys, they look at the record and they see the losses, and they see that he’s a brawler. In a lot of ways, guys have underestimated Adrian Granados. I’m not gonna do that. I’m gonna go in there and just do my best to look spectacular, and the rest will take care of itself. I’m full of confidence in my abilities and in my corner as well.

“I understand what I do is a lot different from other guys. I’m not gonna underestimate Adrian Granados. I’m not gonna go in there and think that he can’t hit me and he can’t hurt me. I’m gonna go after him like this is for a world championship title and he’s the champion.”

The 28-year-old Granados’ five losses all have come either by split decision (three) or majority decision (two). In his most recent fight, Granados dropped a 10-round split decision to former four-division champion Adrien Broner (33-3, 24 KOs, 1 NC) on February 18 in Cincinnati, Broner’s hometown.

Broner won on two scorecards (97-93, 96-94). Granados (18-5-2, 12 KOs), of Cicero, Illinois, won on one card (96-94).

“I think that it was a very good fight and I thought that it was very, very close,” Porter said. “I understood the decision going to Adrien Broner, being that it was in his hometown and he was the guy who was more established as a professional. But I thought that it could’ve been a draw or just as easily gone the other way.

“What Granados showed in that fight is that he’s tough, that he fights and that if you allow him to, he will fight you. With that being said, I know there are gonna be points in the fight where I out-box him and use my feet. Then there will also be moments where I have to take the fight to him. So I know he’s more comfortable with a brawling match and I’m not gonna allow him to be comfortable.”

The 30-year-old Porter (27-2-1, 17 KOs), of Akron, Ohio, overcame a 12th-round knockdown to beat Broner by unanimous decision in their 12-rounder in June 2015 in Las Vegas.

Showtime will air the Porter-Granados fight as part of a tripleheader set to begin at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT.

In the main event, WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (38-0, 37 KOs), of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, will make a mandatory defense of his title in a rematch against Las Vegas’ Bermane Stiverne (25-2-1, 21 KOs). In the opening bout, Kazakhstan’s Sergey Lipinets (12-0, 10 KOs) will face Japan’s Akihiro Kondo (29-6-1, 16 KOs) in a 12-round fight for the vacant IBF junior welterweight title.
