Billy Keane, co-manager of WBO bantamweight champ Gerry Penalosa (52-6-2, 35KOs), appeared on the Sports Chat radio, hosted by Dennis Principe in the Philippines, and revealed that a substantial rematch offer has been made to WBO super bantamweight champ Daniel Ponce De Leon (34-1, 30KOs).
Ponce De Leon won a unanimous decision over Penalosa in March at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. While the judges had lopsided scores of 119-109, 119-109 and 120-108, ringside observers had it much closer.
Penalosa wants the rematch to take place in the Philippines in the early part of 2008, but Ponce De Leon is demanding a hefty sum of $850,000 to take the fight on Penalosa's hometurf. Ponce made $300,000 for his last about against Eduardo Escobedo on the Mayweather-Hatton undercard. Keane told Principe the offer is more than what Ponce De Leon made against Escobedo.
