Former flyweight champion Nonito Donaire was spotted training at the Undisputed Boxing Gym in San Carlos, California as he continued his preparation for his February 19th bout against WBC and WBO bantamweight champion Fernando Montiel. Donaire and Montiel will collide at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Nevada in what is widely considered one of the most important fights in the lower-weight classes.
On this day Donaire was in rare form, sparring ten heated rounds with three separate sparring partners under the watchful eye of trainer Jonathan Penalosa. The action was fierce, as Donaire gave as good as he got against his younger counterparts. The Bohol, Philippines native's uncanny athleticism and unorthodox attack were on display and you could hear the stinging shots ring throughout the building.
After his workout Donaire took part in some hypoxic training at BALCO founder and nutritionish Victor Conte's nearby facilities. During out conversation Donaire discussed the magnitude of his fight with Montiel, being embraced by his countrymen, his aspirations in life and much more. Expect more on Donaire later in the week.
