Smith overcame cuts around both eyes to score the knockout, which raised his record to 15-0 after going the distance in his last two outings.
During the sixth, Smith began to really do damage with punishing punches that had Maxwell reeling and doing whatever was necessary to survive until the bell.
In the seventh, a big right hand to the side of Maxwell's head sent him down and out. The referee began to count, but noticed Maxwell was laying flat and quickly waved off the contest. The official time of the stoppage was 1:34 of the round.
