Since the start of 2014, Petr Petrov (35-4-2, 17KOs) impressively went through the trio of Fedor Papazov, Chris Rudd and Fernando Carcamo to capture the lightweight 'Boxcino' tournament. The Russian is scheduled to make his 2015 debut in mid-January at the Turning Stone Casino in Verona, New York
"Petr is going to be fighting on ESPN2, the 'Boxcino' winners will be fighting on ESPN2 on January 16th into the introduction of 'Boxcino 2015'," said Artie Pelullo, who stages this tournament.
"Right now, we're scheduling Juan Carlos Burgos (for Petrov) and Willie Monroe (who won the middleweight portion of 'Boxcino'), we're working on an opponent as we speak."
The 26-year-old Burgos has a mark of 30-2-2 (20 KO's) and is a three-time title challenger. Back in 2010, he lost a 12-round decision to Hozumi Hasegawa in Japan for the vacant WBC featherweight title. In January of 2013, he had a disputed draw against Roman 'Rocky' Martinez for the WBO 130-pound title and in his last outing this past January, he lost via points against Mikey Garcia for that same WBO belt.
