Brooklyn, New York - Former Middleweight title holder Peter Quillin (32-1-1, 23KOs) has been idle since his stoppage defeat at the hands of his Brooklyn counterpart Danny Jacobs last December.
While Jacobs has a fight scheduled, Quillin still has nothing on the agenda. The Brooklyn resident was on hand at this past weekend’s showdown between Keith Thurman and Shawn Porter at the Barclays Center, and said the boxing world should hear about his future soon.
“I’m coming back very soon, everything comes with time,” Quillin told BoxingScene.com.
However, Quillin does not know if he will return at 160 or 168.
“What I look like now?” Quillin responded when asked about his current walk around weight. They say I look like a heavyweight. When the time comes we’ll decide. Right now we’re working out the minor details but I’m walking around 185, but its water weight, it’ll take me a month to work it off.
The loss to his fellow Brooklynite Danny Jacobs has not deterred Quillin and his return to the ring.
“Loss is s whole new situations, a motivating situation, something to learn about myself,” Quillin said. “I know I lost and created the same type of atmosphere to be part of something so grand is only a dream come true even through the defeat.”
In regards to a rematch, Quillin says it depends on what weight he returns in the ring.
“If it’s a new situation and that’s the time and place, then yeah we’ll do the rematch,” Quillin said of a possible rematch with Jacobs. “It’ll be a good reward to get revenge on Danny. The weight has been an issue in the past since the Winky Wright fight. So we’ll assess and sit down with the right people and see what decisions we make.”
Though he won’t make any weight excuses for his loss to Jacobs.
“Loss hasn’t defeated me as a person. I don’t make no excuses so I only look at a way to overcome my losses so the way to beat excuses is figuring out a way to be better next time out.”
