As BoxingScene.com previously reported, the Brooklyn showdown between Peter Quillin (31-0-1, 22 KOs) and WBA “regular” middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs (30-1, 27 KOs) was heading to a December date at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. The venue has confirmed that December 5th is on hold, with Quillin-Jacobs being targeted fight to headline that event.

Quillin will first have walk away with a win, and without injury, in the upcoming fight on September 12th against Michael Zerafa (17-1, 9 KOs) in the headline fight of a Premier Boxing Champions on NBC televised card which takes place prior to the Floyd Mayweather-Andre Berto PPV from Foxwoods Resort & Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut.

The fight has been brewing for some time and last year it was being discussed for a unification. Quillin unexpectedly vacated his WBO middleweight crown when the sanctioning body ordered him to face previously undefeated Matt Korobov.

Andy Lee faced Korobov instead for the vacant belt last December and won by knockout. Quillin and Lee squared off in April and traded knockdowns in a twelve round bout that ended in a draw.

Jacobs fought earlier this month against former WBC junior middleweight champion Sergio Mora. Jacobs and Mora traded knockdowns in a very short fight that was filled with fireworks. Mora injured his ankle during a knockdown and was unable to continue. As a result, the fight was ruled as a TKO win for Jacobs. Quillin will be the toughest foe for Jacobs since lost by TKO in five rounds to Dmitry Pirog in 2010.
