WBO heavyweight champion Joseph Parker (24-0 18 KOs) is just two weeks away from his unification showdown against WBA/IBF/IBO champion Anthony Joshua (20-0 20 KOs).
The New Zealander finished up his Las Vegas training camp last week and left for the UK on Friday to begin his media commitments to promote the Sky Sports pay-per-view event.
Parker is very excited about facing Joshua and also facing the other heavyweight champion - WBC titleholder Deontay Wilder - down the line.
Joshua was down and hurt before coming back to stop Wladimir Klitschko two fights ago and Wilder was badly hurt in the 7th round of his knockout victory over Luis Ortiz earlier this month. Parker believes he has the power and skill to hurt both men and take advantage of the weaknesses he has seen in both of them.
"It excites me but they both showed true heart from being down and nearly being out," Parker told BoxingScene.com.
As for the Wilder-Ortiz fight, Parker said that the American was much more calculated than he has been in recent fights.
"He was quite accurate. A lot of people say he is wild and throws big bombs but it works for him. He has knocked out everyone he has fought," Parker explained.
The fight against Joshua takes place at Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales on March 31st. Parker finished our conversation with a message for the fans:
"Tune in for an exciting fight. Somebody is going to get knocked out and it won't be me."
Also scheduled for the card, former world champion Anthony Crolla faces Edson Ramirez. Ryan Burnett defends his WBA World Bantamweight crown against Yonfrez Parejo and Alexander Povetkin stakes his WBA mandatory spot against David Price, Josh Kelly also goes for his first belt against former IBF world champion Carlos Molina and Welshman Joe Cordina fights for his first pro title against Andy Townend.
