WBO/WBA/WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. and his career rival Manny Pacquiao are back to exchanging words - two months after Floyd won a twelve round unanimous decision over the Filipino star at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
For the last few weeks, Mayweather has been pretty quiet about Pacquiao. But on Wednesday he posted a video where he takes aim at Pacquiao's post-fight disclosure that he injured his right shoulder during the contest and that injury affected his performance in the fight.
In the video, Mayweather is speaking to a punching dummy (as if it were Pacquiao).
“So Manny, you out here telling people that I didn’t win fair and square,” Mayweather said before grabbing the dummy's left shoulder. “That this little arm is messed up. Is that right?”
He then starts smacking the dummy in the face.
Mayweather did post that he's having a little bit of fun at Pacquiao's expense.
“I love having fun, joking and living life,” Mayweather wrote in the caption, before adding the tag line, “#SenseOfHumor.”
Pacquiao did not find the video amusing. He issued a long statement, through his Public Information Officer (PIO) Aqui Zonio, to several outlets in the Philippines including Philboxing.com and Spin.ph.
In the statement, Pacquiao took a swing at Mayweather's controversial past with domestic abuse.
“A real champion is gracious both in his words and conduct. Someone who is a champion not just in his chosen field of endeavor but even in his own home and private life,” Pacquiao stated.
“We should understand Floyd Mayweather Jr. because of his family background. He hailed from a family of ex-convicts and he himself is an ex-convict. We could not blame him because his action just showed the kind of family upbringing he had."
“It only reminds me of what he did to his ex-wife. I hope he would find time to reflect on his life and repent for the sins he committed in the past. I still respect him as God’s creation and I won’t resort to such kind of a low blow just to get his attention. He’s just like a lost soul still groping in the dark. I pray that may God touch his heart so he will discern the real meaning of love and life."
