WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao admits the pressure is heavy as he continues training for his unification mega-fight with WBC/WBA welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. on May 2nd from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The fight has had six years of hype and many expect record-breaking financial and pay-per-view numbers when the smoke clears.
The winner will boost his legacy to a higher level and answer the question as which of them is the best fighter of this generation.
“I’m coming to the ring to win the fight and bring honor to my country,” said Pacquiao to the LA Times. "I Will Fight for the Filipino People. Everyone knows how important this fight is, and for me it’s really, really, really important because it’s a once-in-a-lifetime fight. It’s a big responsibility for me to win. My plan is to focus on the fight.”
Pacquiao’s training is going very well and his trainer, Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach is starting to lock down the training camp.
“You have to focus without interruption after your activities of jogging, training … I don’t want to focus on anything other than boxing,” Pacquiao said. “I’m not complaining about interviews. They help us promote the fight and help the people know what’s happening in the camps. This is just the first time I’m asking for time to focus. There’s something I need to achieve in this camp, especially mentally.”
