Mexican Olympian Oscar Valdez has signed a five-year contract with Espinoza Boxing, run by well-known manager Frank Espinoza.
Espinoza told BoxingScene.com/The Record that Oscar has what it takes to become a future world champion and Valdez said come that he wants to shine like other Mexican fighters who were made champions by Espinoza - like Abner Mares, Israel Vazquez and Martin Castillo.
Valdez hopes to turn pro in October or November.
"I'm excited, I made the right choice. Frank told me very good things about my career, and he's handled great champions. I'm very happy because I know I'll be fine. Mares spoke well of him. Many people told me about him," Valdez said during a phone interview from California.
"I signed for five years. I'll fight at junior featherweight. I know that I have the style and spirit to succeed in this profession. I don't know how long it will take, but I am sure that I will become a world champion."
Espinoza revealed, meanwhile, that Oscar's style is what caught his attention, and he believes the sky is the limit.
"I liked everything, he has a professional style. He has everything to be champion. I'm excited about signing a future world champion. I had a great experience with Mexican fighters like Mares, (Daniel) Ponce, Vazquez. Castillo. I am very happy because he will surely have a bright future."
