At a press conference held earlier today in Los Angeles, former six division champion Oscar De La Hoya (39-6, 30KOs) announced his retirement from the sport of boxing. De La Hoya has generated more money than any other fighter in the history of the sport, and his storybook career began when he won a gold medal at the 1992 Olympic games.
Since his pro debut, De La Hoya, 36, captured titles at 130, 135, 140, 147, 154 and 160. Over the years, De La Hoya's age began to catch up with his and he lost four of his last seven fights, including a one-sided eight round knockout loss to Manny Pacquiao last December in Las Vegas. After the loss to Pacquiao, De La Hoya told Manny's trainer Freddie Roach - "I don't have it anymore."
De La Hoya owns one the largest promotional companies in the sport, Golden Boy Promotions.
