Orlando "Siri" Salido (44-13-4, 31 KOs) is not intimidated by what World Boxing Council (WBC) super featherweight champion Miguel Berchelt (32-1, 28 KOs) has displayed in the ring in the last twelve months.
Salido said he has the experience and weapons to unseat the young fighter who is coming up in the ranks to make a big name for himself in 2017.
"We must seize the opportunity to the maximum. Thanks to the WBC for offering [this world title shot], to President Mauricio Sulaiman. Now we have to prepare at 100%. I am a warrior that goes in the ring and always leaves everything and this is no exception. I know I have a good opponent, but it does not intimidate me at all," Salido said.
A deal has been reached for the Mexican warriors to face each other on December 9th in an HBO televised main event, likely taking place at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.
In January of this year, Bechelt stopped Francisco Vargas to capture the WBC title. And then he came back in July to win a dominant twelve round decision over mandatory challenger Takashi Miura.
Salido and his team have already started putting together a strategy to take out the once-beaten boxer.
"We have everything planned, a good strategy. He moves well on the sides, and you have to do a clever job to prevent him from doing that," said Salido, who stressed that his experience will be decisive to leave the ring with his arm raised.
"The experience advantage will be key. I have fought with great fighters. I have faced great opponents on my record, like Juan Manuel Marquez. The majority of the opponents I've faced have been in their prime career moments."
"We have to fight him from start to finish. We will cut off the ring, we have resources to win the fight. We have to make an intelligent fight."
