Former world champion Omar Narvaez (43-2-2, 23KOs) of Argentina, 39-years-old, is still motivated to continue his career and to capture another major title. Last week in Japan, Narvaez's long reign as WBO super flyweight champion came to an end when young Japanese sensation Naoya Inoue (8-0, 7KOs) knocked him out in two rounds.
Narvaez's only other defeat was when he moved up to bantamweight and got decisioned by the much larger Nonito Donaire. Inoue was moving up by two weight divisions to take the fight, surprising Narvaez with his power.
"This fight does not weaken me or mean the end of my career. I feel strong and eager. I'll be world champion again. Two days before the fight, I made the weight smoothly and I was technically fine. He surprised me with [his power] ... I did not imagine that he would be so strong. He's an explosive fighter with a great future," Narvaez said.
