Lightweight contender Omar Figueroa created a serious buzz this last Saturday night when he knocked out the previously undefeated Abner "Pin" Cotto in the opening stanza of the Showtime televised fight. The fight served as the chief co-feature of Saul "Canelo" Alvarez's unanimous decision victory over Austin Trout that took place in San Antonio, TX.

Figueroa appeared on this week's edition of BoxingScene Radio to talk about his performance. He said that he expected to make quick work of the Puerto Rican.

"It was pretty much what I expected. I didn't know it would end in the first round but we thought the fight would only go one or two rounds," Figueroa revealed. 

The Texas native entered the ring with a cut on his nose. He said this was the first cut that he has suffered in his career and said that it occurred in a spirited sparring session.
"This camp was the first time i suffered a cut. I got cut on the bridge of my nose.  We were really going at it.   It was a blood bath.  I just wish that a fight like that would have taken place in front of the fans," Figueroa explained.

Figueroa admits that he doesn't watch a lot of boxing in his free time but said that he caught Timothy Bradley's exciting victory over Ruslan Provodnikov that took place last month in California.  Both he and Bradley are trained by Joel Diaz. Figueroa admitted to being bervous watching the fight and praised Bradley for the courage and hear he displayed, saying that he would do the same thing if he was in that situation.

"I can say I watched the Bradley fight and that I was really nervous. My palms were sweaty. I couldn't believe how I felt. I love the way Bradley fought and I would want to fight like him if I got hurt. I would rather go out on a stretcher then stop fighting," Figueroa stated.

Figueroa (21-0, 17KOs) will return on July 27th as part of a Showtime tripleheader at the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas . Also on the card, Andre Berto will face Jesus
Soto Karass in the main event, and  Keith Thurman will go against Diego Chaves.
