Multi-division champion Nonito "Filipino Flash" Donaire sat down with BoxingScene.com to break down the upcoming Floyd Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao super fight. The fight will take place on May 2nd at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The fight is 5 years in the making and many feel the fight would have been better in 2009 or 2010 when both fighters were at the apex of their careers. Donaire, who was born in the Philippines, feels that is one factor that makes the fight hard to predict.
"It is a difficult fight to judge because you got guys who went up and down in terms of the way they fought. They had good days and bad days and they may have looked like they have gone down with the way that fought - people saying that they are slowing down," said Donaire.
Donaire feels that the key to the fight will be which fighter will be able to impose their will and set the tone at the beginning of the fight. He believes that the fight could come down to the basic element of Pacquiao's powerful left hand against Mayweather's precise right hand.
"It depends on who shows up and imposes their style early on. Pacquiao is going to try to do that in the beginning but one thing about Mayweather is he will figure you out. I don't really pick winners. I like to analyze the situation - but people always say that Mayweather has never fought anyone like Pacquiao and that is true.
"He's has problems with southpaws in the past. He's been rocked by Chop Chop Corley and he was hurt bad like we've never seen him hurt and Pacquiao has the power to knock him out - but he possesses the main weapon that southpaws are weary of and that is the straight right hand. He has the fastest and best straight right hand out there," Donaire told BoxingScene.com.
