Johannesburg – South African women's boxer Noni Tenge beat Argentine foe Silvia Zacarias at the Orient Theatre in East London on Sunday to earn a chance to challenge for a world title.
The former WBF and IBF welterweight champion can now challenge for the WBA welterweight crown current held by Norwegian boxer, Cecilia Braekhus.
Tenge started well in the first three rounds, but a more even bout ensued.
Zacarias dominated between the fourth and the sixth rounds.
However, Tenge changed strategy at the beginning of the seventh round and used her left jab effectively.
Zacarias was soon in trouble, and was on the backfoot.
Tenge employed jabs with body punches to strengthen her advantage.
The dominant Tenge stopped Zacarias in the ninth round to earn a crack at the world title.
It was Tenge’s 12th victory of her career.
