There was no sweet revenge for Martin Power (19-2, 8KOs) as he was stopped after four rounds with Commonwealth bantamweight champ Tshifhiwa Munyai (13-0, 8KOs) at Dagenham's Goresbrook Centre in England.
Last July, it took Munyai nine rounds to stop Power at York Hall to win the title, this time around he made the beating quick. Power was struggling bad in the fight after hurting his arm in the second round. Munyai began to batter him with combinations and hard counters. Trainer Johnny Eames would not allow Power to come out for the fifth round.
"No excuses. He beat me fair and square. I hurt my arm in the second round and thought I could carry on. But it got worse in the fourth and I was struggling to land my punches. It would have been hard enough to beat him with two hands. But he deserved his victory. He'd improved a lot since the last time we fought," Power said.
Power's promoter Frank Maloney told ITV: "I never wanted him to take this fight. He insisted on having another go but this kid (Munyai) is one of the best young fighters I've ever seen."
Munyai is only 21-years-old and wants to fight for a major title by the end of the year.
On the undercard:
Brian Magee won a British light-heavyweight final eliminator with a twelve-round decision over Andrew Lowe. Magee will meet the winner of champion Peter Oboh's next defense against Tony Oakey.
Andrew Facey of Sheffield retained his English light-middleweight title by stopping previously unbeaten prospect Gary Woolcombe, of Welling, in the fifth round.
