Manager and promoter Neil Marsh says he is extremely excited to let Robbie Davies Jnr loose on ITV4 in Preston, at the Guild Hall, and demonstrate the talent that he knows the 27-year-old Liverpool man possesses.

Davies Jnr, who is now 14-0 (10 KOs), will defend his WBA Continental super-lightweight title against Zoltan Szabo, who is stepping in as a late replacement for Willie Limond.

And Marsh is certain the change of opponent will have no effect on his champion.

Marsh will promote the solid card on terrestrial television in association with Poxon Sports, launching the channel’s latest push into boxing, and adds that he is extremely grateful on behalf of himself and his fighters for the opportunity handed to them by Richard Poxon.

The promoter told Boxing Scene: “I’m so excited for Robbie who has been very patient waiting for his chance to get the exposure he deserves. Now he’s got the chance and he’ll show why he is one of the top talents in Europe and maybe the world.

“I know how far he can go, as long as he keeps doing what he is doing, as he’s a model pro. It won’t be long until he is at world level. We were told Limond had a virus so Szabo is in, who is a credible opponent at short notice, who only fought a few days ago and beat Stephen Ormond last year, so he’s good for Robbie.”

Szabo (14-3, 6 KOs) was last in action on January 4 in his home land of Hungary when he was victorious courtesy of a first-round disqualification against Laszlo Robert Balogh.

“I’m extremely grateful to Richard at Poxon Sports for giving me a chance that every other promoter in the UK would love,” Marsh beamed. “We’re a lucky team, who have enjoyed a lot of success, but who [we’re a team which] didn’t have much coverage or backing and we’ve waited patiently for our chance.

“Now we’ll be on the biggest platform in the whole of the UK.”

As well as Davies Jnr, the card will also include a local derby between Jack Arnfield and Mick Hall, where Blackpool’s Arnfield defends his WBA International middleweight title and renews hostilities with Preston’s Hall who he controversially beat in a Prizefighter contest in 2015.

Marsh also hands chances to the likes of Zach Parker, Bill Hodgson and Joe Wood, while Atif Shafiq, Mark Jeffers and Nathan Wheatley will get the opportunity to demonstrate their skills on the platform.

Heavyweight Nick Webb has just been added to the bill following the withdrawal of Anthony Cacace through illness.

“Jack Arnfield and Mick Hall is a great fight with more than just a title on the line,” Marsh said. “The local rivalry between Blackpool and Preston doesn't need any more pushing and both have improved since that Prizefighter fight, which many, myself included, thought Mick did enough to win.

“Zach Parker is a great talent, who I’m working with Errol Johnson to push. He’s in a similar place to where Robbie was when I started working with him, with a good reputation, so I’m excited to see him explode on to the scene.

“There’s also big punching heavyweight Bill Hodgson, who is a pleasure to be involved with, as is Joe Wood, who is 3-1 and was caught out in his loss, but is improving all the time.

“Then Nathan Wheatley and Mark Jeffers are on and will bring big followings which is great, so I’d like to thank Kieran Farrell and Michael Jennings for bringing them.

“It will be a great night of boxing on Saturday –– and I can’t wait, to be honest. It’s a privilege to be involved with ITV, but I’d like to add that I’m willing to work with anyone in the sport to provide the fans with the best fights out there. That is my intention as a promoter and I’m starting on Saturday.”
