Nathanael Wilson was stopped as he lost his undefeated record.
The estranged son of Chris Eubank dropped to 4-1-1 (2 KOs) at the SSE Arena in London.
Wilson was in against Jonny Phillips on the undercard of George Groves’ WBA Super super-middleweight title defence against Jamie Cox in the World Boxing Super Series quarter-final.
Phillips was on the back foot in the opening stages of the first round, but the 26-year-old, from Surrey, closed his eyes and swung a massive left hook which landed bang on the button of Wilson’s chin, forcing him to crumble to the canvas.
He rose during the referee’s count, but Howard Foster was dissatisfied and waved the contest off, judging that ‘Banks’ was in no position to continue.
Meanwhile, Louis Adolphe was disqualified in the opening round of his scheduled eight-round fight.
Adolphe was in against Nottingham’s Nathan McIntosh, who recently boxed alongside his girlfriend on a Carl Greaves-promoted show, and was thrown out after the referee called break and a shot was landed on the opponent.
McIntosh was laid out by the big right hand issued by Adolphe –– and even had to take in oxygen –– but a victory was added to his ledger.
The fight itself was warming up nicely and it’s one that we could see again over a longer distance in the not-too-distant future, given that there were no injuries or issues in the fight.
And Kian Thomas moved to 8-0 after eight months out with a knockout victory over Ferenc Katona.
