IBF welterweight champion Natasha Jonas has embraced the possibility of defending her title against Mikaela Mayer.

Mayer, who last year suffered a split decision loss in her super featherweight unification against Alycia Baumgardner, has been moving up in weight with each passing fight.

Jonas saw action in July, when she stopped Kandi Wyatt to capture the vacant IBF title.

Mayer was back in the ring last Saturday in Manchester, when she picked up a decision win in her debut at junior welterweight. She's now ready to challenge Jonas at the welterweight limit of 147.

Jonas has no problem with facing Mayer next - as long as it takes place before the end of the year.

"I want it, Mikaela [Mayer] wants it. I think the fans want it. Why not? It's just the particulars that we've got to work out. Let's do it. I'm all down for next. If next is before the end of this year, then that's fine," Jonas said to Sky Sports.

In 2022, Jonas moved up by several weight divisions and captured three world titles at junior middleweight.

After being unable to secure a deal to fight Claressa Shields, Jonas decided to drop down to 147.

Mayer would like to have that fight take place next.

"I think that we're both in a time in our careers where we're looking for big fights. We both have solidified our name in this sport. We've both done a bunch in the amateur as well as the pros. I want it, she wants it. She wants it. There's no reason why we can't make that happen. I ideally would want it next," Mayer said.

"I'm ready for that fight [against Natasha Jonas]. I have been preparing my body to go up. It's a big jump, going from 130 pounds to 147 pounds. It takes time to undo what I did to keep my body down at that weight for so many years."
