Trainer Nacho Beristain, who now works with Alfredo Angulo, is confident that his boxer will defeat Vanes Martirosyan in a WBC junior middleweight eliminator, and even more confident that Angulo will beat the World Boxing Council's champion, Saul "Canelo" Alvarez. Angulo recently returned after a long layoff and stopped Joseph Gomez in the first round. Despite the low activity level, Nacho said his boxer is ready for Vanes and Canelo.

"[Angulo] is ready for those two [Martirosyan and Alvarez]. He has to train well, and he always does, but I think he's ready. He says that he's ready to beat them. I think Canelo is an illusion rather than a reality, and Angulo is a true fighter," Nacho told Sal Rodriguez.
