According to Gareth Davies of Telegraph Sport, "Mystery Man" Mustafa Ameen - accused by junior welterweight Amir Khan of interfering in his split decision loss to Lamont Peterson in December - will explain his ringside actions at the IBF's appeal hearing set for January 18th in New York. Despite the recent claims of Khan's trainer Freddie Roach, the IBF told the paper that Ameen is indeed affiliated with their organization. Roach, who said he was very familiar with Ameen, told BBC Sport “[Ameen] is not a member of any boxing organization."

Ameen will offer an explanation to the photographs which show him at ringside having a discussion with World Boxing Association supervisor Michael Welsh and touching a scoring slip. Ameen was also photographed inside the ring, standing next to Peterson and members of his team as they celebrated their championship win.

“It is something we will address at the hearing,” Jeanette Salazar, public relations director for the IBF, told Telegraph Sport. “Until then, the individual has been asked not to speak publicly or to the media.”

Ameen was not sanctioned to work the Khan-Peterson fight in Washington. Khan has appealed his decision loss to the WBA and IBF. Based on all of the controversy, the WBA has already promised to order a rematch, while the IBF will make a decision after the hearing.
