The European Boxing Union (EBU) has revealed that their Super middleweight title is now vacant and will be contested by France's Hadillah Mohoumadi and Spain's Mariano Hilario in France on December 20th.
George Groves, 20-2 (15), won the belt by out-pointing Christopher Rebrasse in London on September 20th; he fights Denis Doughlin for the WBC's Silver Super middleweight title on the undercard of Tony Bellew's rematch with Nathan Cleverly at Liverpool's Echo Arena on November 22nd.
Although they have declared it vacant, the EBU did not outline why Groves relinquished the belt, but have instead moved quickly to put the belt back on the market.
Mohoumadi, 18-3-1 (13), will hope to hoover up the title; Hilario, 11-2 (4) will no doubt want to it to his EBU-EU strap.
Indeed, the 27-year-old is scheduled to meet Cristian Sanavia in an EBU-EU defence on the 20th of December, so he has a choice to make—although the EBU's website update would suggest that he's opted for an away day fight for the full European title on the same night against the 34-year-old Frenchman.
