According to Robert Garcia, trainer and older brother of former two division world champion Mikey Garcia, they are in no rush to sign a promotional agreement with anyone.
Garcia recently became a free agent after a long legal battle with former promoter Top Rank.
Once he became a free agent, Garcia (34-0, 28KOs) began receiving offers from several interested parties, including Floyd Mayweather Jr., who promotes numerous fighters under his Mayweather Promotions banner.
The 28-year-old Garcia, who won world titles at featherweight and super featherweight, has been inactive since dominating Juan Carlos Burgos over twelve rounds in January 2014.
There has been a lot of noise about Garcia heading to Mayweather, and the two of them recently hooked up in Las Vegas, but Robert cautions that his brother - after a long legal battle to break one contract - is not running to sign another one unless the deal is absolutely worth the signature.
"Mikey will come back soon. He still hasn't made a decision [on what he plans to do]. We're hearing from a lot of people. People are actually coming to me. Mikey is hearing everything out and making sure that he makes the right decision. There has been a lot of talk about Mayweather and Mikey hooking up, but that doesn't mean that's where Mikey is going to end up," Robert Garcia explained to BoxingScene.com.
"Mikey is going to make the right decision. Mikey just got out of a promotional contract and I don't think he wants to get locked in to another one that fast. I think Mikey is going to be smart about and is decides to do it - it's going to be because it's worth it. Mikey has so many options right now."
