Puerto Rican amateur stars, McWilliams and McJoe Arroyo, who both qualified for the 2008 Olympic games in Beijing, are scheduled to meet with promoter Don King reps to discuss the possibility of both men going pro and signing with DKP. The two talented twin brother fought at different weights during their amateur runs to avoid the possibility of fighting each other. McJoe fought at 119-pounds and McWilliams would see action at 112.
King has been on some run. A few weeks ago he signed former three-division champion Marco Antonio Barrera, and BoxingScene.com broke the news earlier in the week that King made a deal with Ahmet Öner, CEO of Arena Box, to become the exclusive American promoter for unbeaten featherweight/2004 Olympic gold medal winner Yuriorkis Gamboa (11-0, 9 KOs), and undefeated heavyweight prospect Odlanier Solis (11-0, 7KOs).
The Arroyo twins are regarded as two of the best amateurs in Puerto Rico and some consider them the best. The are only the second set of twins in to qualify for the Olympics in boxing.
McWilliams is best known for winning the gold medal at the Central American and Caribbean Games in Cartagena, Colombia, defeating former Olympic champion Yan Barthelemy of Cuba. McJoe won Bronze at flyweight at the 2006 Central American and Caribbean Games. In 2007 he participated at the Amateur World Championships and lost in the semifinals to eventual Russian winner Sergey Vodopyanov.
If he could close the deal on these two guys, King would certainly win some award for most improved stable of the year. Primera Hora reports that King's reps should visit the twins in the coming days.
