Ronda Rousey is not the only UFC star with Floyd Mayweather Jr. on the brain. The newest MMA sensation Conor McGregor, who may become the next mega-star for the company if he wins the full world title from Jose Aldo in December, says a fight with Mayweather would generate half a billion dollars in revenue.
Mayweather generated that much revenue for his May mega-fight with Manny Pacquiao on May 2nd. Their fight had five to six years of hype and another fight with similar financial strength may not happen again for decades.
McGregor, who has an army of followers like Ricky Hatton, says a cross-sport showdown with Mayweather would come close to the Pacquiao numbers.
“But if you’re talking about a fight that could generate half a billion – it’s this one. There’s never going to be another boxing fight like this. Only a cross-style match between Mayweather and me could generate that kind of interest and revenue. So maybe it could happen. I would certainly be up for it…. in a real fight I would dismantle him in seconds. Ronda would dismantle him in seconds – 100%,” McGregor told The Guardian.
