Audie Attar, manager of UFC superstar Conor McGregor, says the fighter will potentially return to boxing in the future.
The first order of business, is to finalize his next bout in mixed martial arts.
McGregor was back in the cage in January, when he blew away Donald Cerrone in 40 seconds. It was McGregor's first MMA fight since October of 2018.
McGregor will now look to secure the biggest fight on the table in MMA, which is potentially Justin Gaethje.
At the same time, McGregor has been teasing a return to boxing for the last few months.
One target is eight division world champion Manny Pacquiao, who also works with Attar's managerial company.
“I think he’s thinking MMA first,” Attar said to MMA Junkie.
“Boxing is definitely something he plans on doing, but I think he’s thinking MMA first. And who the opponent is, it could be (Justin Gaethje or Tony Ferguson), it could be someone else. It just depends on how things play out and where he wants to take it. Ultimately, I think all the fans want to see him fight, so it doesn’t matter who he fights – he’ll fight someone.
“Whether he fights (Gaethje) or whether he fights another opponent, we will see. Let’s see how this thing plays out and let’s see how discussions go and then as it relates to him fighting Manny or any other boxer in the future, that’s always a possibility.”
McGregor made his debut in boxing in August 2017, when he stepped in the ring with a comebacking Floyd Mayweather.
Although he did well early, McGregor was broken down and stopped in the tenth round at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
The event generated the second largest pay-per-view buyrate in history - with over four million purchases.
“I think at the end of the day, he is an amazing talent, an amazing not only athlete, but personality – and someone fans want to see compete,” Attar said. “And ultimately, I think that there’s a few matchups that we can make. It’s just about how things play out and what makes sense.”
